It is one thing to write a book, and I\u2019ll be talking about that at length in this series, but it is quite
\nanother to market it.<\/p>\n
With Granny\u2019s Got a Boyfriend in the technical production stage, the publisher is now raising the
\ntopic of the book\u2019s marketing. Selling myself to readers isn\u2019t something I enjoy. I\u2019d much rather
\ncreate ideas, capture them in words, and set them to musical phrases. But marketing is an
\nessential aspect of publishing.<\/p>\n
Last week, I attended a two-day seminar on how AI is impacting the publishing business and
\nhow it has already changed Amazon\u2019s promotional patterns. This morning, I spent nearly an
\nhour talking with the co-founder of my publishing company, who happens to be located in Israel,
\nabout book fairs, book signings, Zoom lectures, podcasts, blogs, trailers, elevator pitches \u2013 and
\nthe list goes on.<\/p>\n
In addition to having a website and a Facebook page, I now have a presence on Instagram. All
\nthis is because an author is supposed to enlarge his\/her social media platform.<\/p>\n
Of course, the bottom line is \u201cIs this book any good?\u201d Will people want to read it? Who\u2019s your
\ntarget audience? Will Australian widows respond differently than those who read the Spanish
\nedition, here in the US, or those in Argentina?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s an entirely new world in which the residents speak an almost totally new language to me.
