When you write a book, you internally hear the words in your own voice. You hear your
inflection, emotion, and the intensity of your feelings. But as my publisher plans to produce an
audiobook, I had to choose a “voice” for my words.
I could have recorded the entire book myself, of course, but I don’t have a professionally trained
voice, so I thought it best to select a voice from the publisher’s voice library.
How different it is to hear your words spoken by another. Is THAT how “the voice” interprets my
words? More than likely, AI is reading my words to me, but suddenly, AI becomes a partner in
the process. AI doesn’t have a personality, and yet, my words are assuming the personalities in
my novel. My protagonist, Anne, is happy, perturbed, frustrated, excited, fearful, and all these
emotions come through. Amazing. I am excited to hear my words come alive through the voice
of another . Listening to my book gives it new perspectives and interpretations.
