Early Reviews and Commentaries: Granny’s Got a Boyfriend

Synopsis: Life and love- can begin after sixty

When Boston-based children’s book author Ann Becker plans a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to reignite her creative spark, romance is the last thing on her mind. At sixty-two, she knows she still has years ahead of her, and no idea what to do with them, but since her husband, Jim, died of COVID, she’s filled the emptiness with her grandchildren and her complicated relationship with their mother, her daughter, Nancy. Then a fateful fall on a hike brings Bryan Winston into her life. The Tucson architect is sixty-seven, widowed, and ruggedly handsome, with Robert Redford’s looks and Paul Newman’s blue eyes. Ann is rapt, and her solo sojourn soon turns into a romantic rendezvous. After the vacation, Ann and Bryan try long-distance dating for a while, but Nancy doubts Bryan’s intentions, especially when Ann announces she’s moving to Tucson. Is this a golden opportunity for Ann, or is Nancy right, that Ann’s fallen prey to a gold digger?

Granny’s Got a Boyfriend is a heartfelt, second-act romance exploring the concept that getting older is not an ending, and that happiness, like love, has no age limit.

“Babies take nine months. Books take even longer. But when they come, what joy!”

Whichi the White Chipmunk

This beautiful story helps convey the message that being different makes one very special. I work at our
local library and an elementary school with my three Golden Retrievers who are all registered Reading
Education Assistance Dogs. We shared this story in one of our recent sessions and our young readers
were totally engaged throughout the story.
